Part 2: Science Against Denialism

Prof. Marcelo Knobel
Full Professor, University of Campinas (Unicamp), Campinas, SP, Brazil
Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (Elsevier)

Date & Time: 15:00 - 16:00, November 18th (Mon), 2024.
Place: 8F Middle Conference Room, Main Bldg., Sengen.

Abstract:

Part 1: Exploring the evolving field of nanomagnetism, this talk delves into the fundamental and technological aspects of ultra-fine particle magnetism. Highlighting phenomena such as giant magnetoresistance and superparamagnetism, it discusses recent advancements and ongoing challenges in studying granular magnetic systems. Emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary applications in chemistry and engineering, showcasing the broad utility of nanostructured magnetic materials.

Part 2: Addressing the critical issue of scientific denialism, this segment emphasizes the ethical imperative to combat misinformation. It underscores the role of science communication in promoting public understanding of research methods and the dangers of pseudosciences. Practical strategies for scientists, students, and communicators to engage in this vital battle are discussed, aiming to foster critical thinking and trust in scientific results.
