The 28th International Workshop on Rare Earth and Future Permanent Magnets and Their Applications (REPM2025) was successfully held from July 27th to 31st, 2025, at the Tsukuba International Congress Center, hosted by the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS). The event brought together leading experts, engineers, and industry representatives to discuss the latest developments in permanent magnet materials, technologies, and applications.
This year's workshop welcomed 365 participants from 24 countries, with the largest delegations from Japan (118 participants), China (80), Germany (29), Korea (26), and the United States (24). Notably, two-thirds of attendees traveled from overseas, reflecting the strong international nature and relevance of permanent magnet research in addressing today's critical material challenges.
The technical program featured 79 oral presentations, including 4 plenary lectures and 22 invited talks, alongside 143 poster presentations. Discussions covered a broad range of topics, from advanced RE-based magnets, HRE-lean and RE-free alternatives, and magnet recycling, to cutting-edge approaches using high-throughput experimentation, machine learning, and data-driven materials discovery. Many sessions emphasized the urgent need to strengthen supply chain resilience and support the transition to sustainable energy technologies.
REPM2025 was made possible through the generous support of 20 sponsors, including an individual contribution from Dr. Masato Sagawa, and the hard work of the Local Organizing Committee along with staff members of the Research Center for Magnetic and Spintronic Materials Center, NIMS.
The 29th REPM Workshop (REPM2027) will be held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. We thank all participants for their invaluable contributions and look forward to continuing this tradition of global collaboration and scientific excellence at REPM2027.

Presented Materials with DOI:
As part of our efforts to ensure that all oral and poster presentations can be properly cited in the academic literature, REPM2025 will archive the final versions of all presentations in NIMS's data repository (MDR). Each presentation will be assigned a DOI, allowing it to be formally referenced in future publications.
We kindly ask you to submit your final revised version of the presentation by August 31st, 2025, ensuring that any copyright issues have been resolved prior to submission. Please send the finalized PDF files to REPM2025@nims.go.jp.
Once uploaded, the presentation files will be linked directly from the REPM2025 program, making them easily accessible and citable for the research community.
Thank you for your cooperation in making REPM2025 a lasting scientific resource.
