Thermal Spraying of Metallic Hard Materials and Hard Metals Abstract The presentation focuses on thermal spraying, especially high velocity oxyfuel spraying (HVOF) of metallic hard materials, i.e. molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2),and hard metals like WC-CoCr.Molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2) shows a great potential as a structural material as well as a protective coating for applications in the temperature range above 1300 C caused by its unique combination of properties like the moderate density, the high melting point, the good thermal and electrical conductivity and the excellent oxidation resistance. It was sprayed by different methods and characterized especially regarding its oxidation behavior.HVOF sprayed cermet coatings are widely used for combined wear and corrosion protection these days. For some applications, i.e. in paper industry, also the heat transferring function of the coatings is of high importance. Some properties of WC-CoCr 86-10 4 like the thermal diffusivity and the wear resistance against abrasive wear were studied in dependency of the carbide size and the Vickers hardness HV0.3 and then compared with of bond coats like NiCr 80-20.Furthermore some other works in the research fields of thermal spraying and carbon based low wear friction coatings will be shortly presented. |
