Symposium A-10:
Nanotechnology Networking and International Cooperation
Co-organized by Nanotechnology Researchers Network Center of
Japan Co-sponsored by Materials Research Institute, Northwestern
University
Scope
It has been commonly recognized in nanotechnology fields that the networking among various material scientists or with other fields, is a prerequisite to efficiently promote research and development. At the IUMRS-ICAM2001 (Workshop was held in Cancun), a "Workshop on International Collaboration and Networking" was held and made a concrete contribution to collaboration by including the concept of an International Virtual Institute. As in other countries, the national policy in Japan has placed an emphasis on nanotechnology researchers networking and global cooperation, and has inaugurated the nanotechnology researchers network center of Japan starting in June, 2002. One of the most important tasks of the center is the networking and nationwide/international coordination. At the time of the IUMRS-ICAM2003 meeting, concrete progresses in the nanotechnology and the networking will be expected in each country. Accordingly, the Workshop on Nanotechnology Networking and International Cooperation will be held in IUMRS-ICAM2003, Yokohama. Overviews of the nanotechnology status and networking will be reported, and international and interdisciplinary discussion will be developed leading to the next step of nanotechnology networking.
