Industrial Innovation and Advanced Materials Research at Taiwan’s ITRI: From Fundamental Science to Industrial Application

Abstract:
This presentation will provide an overview of Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and its leading role in promoting industrial innovation and technological advancement. The talk will begin with an introduction to ITRI’s organization, mission, and core research directions, highlighting how it bridges fundamental research and industrial application.
The second part will focus on the Material and Chemical Research Laboratories (MCL), which plays a pivotal role in developing advanced materials, chemical engineering technologies, and sustainable manufacturing processes. The key research themes and major achievements of MCL will be introduced to demonstrate its impact on Taiwan’s strategic material development and industrial competitiveness.
Finally, the lecture will highlight the research activities of the Division of Advanced Metals and Composites within MCL. This division specializes in high-performance alloys, surface engineering, and composite material technologies. Case studies will be presented to illustrate the integration of material design, process innovation, and industrial application in areas such as lightweight structures, corrosion protection, and next-generation manufacturing solutions.
