Abstract:
This seminar presents our recent research on alloy design and microstructuralcontrol of Mg–Li–Al–Zn and related Al- and Mg-based systems, focusing on howCALPHAD-based thermodynamic analysis combined with thermomechanicalprocessing and pre-aging treatments can optimize nanoscale Al–Li-bearingprecipitate distributions. The approach enables simultaneous improvement instrength and ductility while offering a quantitative framework for designing nextgenerationlightweight alloys with enhanced stability and formability. Particularattention is given to the interplay between alloy chemistry, deformation path, andprecipitation kinetics during processing. In addition, complementary in-situ TEMstudies with Prof. Jer-Ren Yang’s group on CoCrNi–Si medium-entropy alloysand steels, in collaboration with Prof. Ohmura’s team, provide comparativeinsights into how compositional tuning and defect evolution govern mechanicalresponse. The seminar will conclude with a discussion on extending suchintegrated experimental–computational strategies to other advanced alloysystems through continued collaboration.
