On June 5, 2025, Dr. Sachiko Hiromoto of the Research Center for Structural Materials (RCSM), National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) received the Academic Merit Award from the Japan Society of Corrosion Engineering (JSCE).

The subject of the award was "Development of Apatite Coating of Biomedical Mg Alloys.
The award was given in recognition of the development of a new coating method for apatite coatings to control corrosion and promote bone bonding of biological magnesium alloys used for bone screws, etc., and the results of the evaluation of various properties such as corrosion characteristics and biocompatibility.
