New Internship Student Joins Our Research Group
We are pleased to announce that Leila Akisheva has joined our research group as an internship student. Leila is a 4th year undergraduate student from the School of Sciences and Humanities, Physics Department at Nazarbayev University, where she also serves as a Research Assistant.
During her internship with us, Leila will be contributing to our quantum defect project. Her background in physics and previous research experience will be valuable assets to our ongoing work in this field.
We look forward to collaborating with Leila and anticipate her fresh perspectives will enhance our research efforts. Please join us in welcoming her to the team.

NIMS Intern Undergraduate Student
May 2025-July 2025
I am an upcoming 4th-year undergraduate Physics major student (Class of 2026) at Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan. I joined the 2D Quantum Materials Group at NIMS on May 2025 as a participant in the NIMS Internship Program. Prior to this, I worked with 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) synthesized via CVD, specifically exploring superconductivity for single photon detectors. Last summer, I also interned at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), in the Inorganic facility and Nanofabrication facility lab at Molecular Foundry. At NIMS, my current project focuses on the functionalization of TMDs for potential use in single-photon emitter applications.
