The International Center for Young Scientists (ICYS) recruits outstanding young researchers from around the world (within 10 years of obtaining their Ph.D.s) as ICYS Principal Investigators (ICYS PI) or ICYS Research Fellows (ICYS RF) through international open calls, in order to foster the next generation of leaders in materials research.
ICYS PI and ICYS RF conduct independent research based on their own ideas, utilizing NIMS’s state-of-the-art equipment and receiving support, including mentoring by researchers both inside and outside NIMS, as well as secretarial services, in a highly international and collaborative environment.
ICYS Principal Investigator (PI)― Build your own research unit and pioneer a new research field ―

ICYS Research Fellow (RF)― Pursue independent research and take the next step forward ―
| Activities | ICYS RFs conduct independent research topics and are encouraged to develop their own ideas. |

| Term | 3 years (up to 5 years), with annual evaluation and potential renewal. |
