Abstract:

I have developed a new microscope for magnetic systems. Here, I would like to show my recent results on ultrafast time-resolved microscopic imaging of the all-optical switching of magnetization in ferrimagnetic amorphous GdFeCo film and the propagation dynamics of optically-excited spin waves in a garnet film. These phenomena are visualized through magneto-optical images with sub-micrometer spatial resolution and sub-picosecond time-resolution. I would also discuss our project for the development of ultra-energy-saving all-optical magneto-optical memory devices, which has potential to decrease the energy cost for the data storage to 1% as compared to the conventional hard disk drives.
