In-situ Formation of Conducting Polymer/Radical Polymer Layer for Rapid Charge-Storage Devices
Based on durable, but highly redox-active property of organic radicals, we have developed “radical polymers”, aliphatic polymers densely populated with pendant radical groups such as nitroxides and galvinoxyls. Radical polymers were employed as electrode-active, charge-storage materials in a rechargeable battery, which was characterized by its extremely high power-rate capability (10 sec. for charging) and cycle stability (>1000 cycles). In this seminar, we demonstrate vapor-phase oxidative polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) in presence of radical polymers to prepare the radical/conducting polymer mixed layer. An organic-based flexible rechargeable battery was fabricated, and enhanced charge-transport via SOMO/π interaction will be also discussed.
