Transition Metal-Containing Macromolecules: En Route to New Functional Materials

The development of new materials is critical for continued advances in nanotechnology, as well as electronic or photonic devices, and encapsulation systems. The goal of this research program is to prepare new organic/organometallic compounds that possess photochemical, electrochemical, and physical properties that are essential materials for use in solar cells, liquid crystals, sensors, and filters for environmental contaminants. We will prepare several classes of macromolecules that contain such compounds as calix[n]arenes, porphyrins, and dyes, taking advantage of their physical and chemical properties to create a range of functional materials.
