Abstract

MXene, a burgeoning member of the 2D materials family, has garnered significant attention due to its exceptional attributes, including high electrical conductivity, highly functionalized surfaces, and pronounced volumetric capacitance, making it promising for electronics. However, achieving macroscopically ordered materials through the self-organization of pure Ti3C2Tx sheets remains difficult due to the small size of MXene sheets. In our studies, we synthesized large-size MXene flakes using modified MILD synthesis procedures and observed their liquid crystalline behavior. This facilitated the self-assembly of MXene flakes into high-performance macrostructures, including ultra-high electrical conductivity fibers,[1-3] enhanced MXene films,[4-5] and 3D aerogels[6] for supercapacitors. These macrostructures maintained outstanding electrochemical properties, comparable to the highest values in current literature. MXene-based liquid crystals offer a promising avenue for novel structures and high-performance devices.
