A superconducting wire is useful within a boundary defined by its

critical current Ic, critical temperature Tc, and critical field Hc2, and

the characterization of Ic is particularly indispensable for the designing

of an application. High temperature superconductors (HTS) provide paths to

applications that have not been accessible previously and characterizing

their performance is of current interest. Here, I briefly summarize the HTS

conductor characterizations I have performed around the globe, and their

relevance.
