Job Summary
(Topic 1) Theoretical Solid-State Physics for Energy Storage/Conversion Reactions
(Topic 2) Synthesis of Coordination Frameworks and Investigate Their Structure-Property Correlations

The general tasks of the successful candidates:
I. Understanding the energy storage mechanism of model electrode materials based on coordination frameworks
II. planning, participation, and evaluation of research cruises
III. working as an integral part of a motivated multidisciplinary team within the institute and external academic partners
IV. producing scientific publications and presentations in meetings
Qualification
Minimum qualifications:
- a PhD within the last five years in theoretical physics (condensed matter or related fields), mathematics, physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry or related disciplines 
- strong academic publication record
- (for Topic 2) experience in synthesis of metal-organic frameworks / covalent organic frameworks or of organic ligands
- ability and willingness to participate in research cruises
- excellent knowledge of English (written and oral)
- Interest and ability to learn other skills needed; ability to work on challenging tasks
- good communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team with scientists, engineers, and technicians
 
Preferred qualifications:
- (for Topic 1) Experience in using VASP and/or Wien2k
- (for Topic 1) prior experience with calculation/discussion of electronic structures of condensed matters
- (for Topic 2) prior experience with synthesis of MOF / COF
- (for Topic 2) prior experience with electrochemistry experiments
Starting Date The preferred starting date is on April 1, 2020.
Term The position will be for 12 months with the possibility for prolongation for additional 12 to 24 months.
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, Namiki–site (Tsukuba city, Ibaraki)
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a day (negotiable as the flex-time system)
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, and National Holidays
