Job Summary
A postdoctoral researcher position on microstructural analysis of various metallic materials using SEM, Cs-corrected TEM, and 3D atom probe. The relevant projects include the analysis of the distribution of trace hydrogen in steel and Al alloys using cryo-FIB and 3D atom probe in collaboration with experts in hydrogen embrittlement study. Successful candidate also is also expected to perform nano- ~ atomic-level microstructure analysis to clarify the process-structure-property relationship in various metallic materials, including magnetic materials and structural materials. Candidates must have experience in using TEM, but research experience in using atom probe and background of magnetic materials is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualification
  • Ph.D. in materials science
  • Prior experience in TEM
Starting Date December 1st, 2024 or later
Term 1 year
Contract Renewal Criteria / Maximum Employment Period Renewal of the contract will be determined based on work performance, work attitude, progress of the work engaged in, workload at the end of the contract period, budget situation, and other factors. The maximum employment period shall not exceed five (5) years. This may be subject to change because of amendments to the Working Regulations.
Work Place National Institute for Materials Science, Sengen-Site (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki)
Scope of Work Location Changes The scope of the change of place of work shall be limited to each of the Employer’s site, as well as other locations separately approved by the Employer.
Work Hours 7 hours 45 minutes a day, or Discretionary labor system
Deemed working hours when the discretionary labor system is applied are 8 hours and 15 minutes per day.
Holiday Saturdays, Sundays, National Holidays, New Year holidays, annual paid leave, and other holidays as stipulated in the NIMS Regulations
Salary / Supply
According to NIMS regulations. Commuting allowance and national insurance are also included.
Fixed overtime pay included in monthly salary (Article 10, item 3 of the Salary Regulations for Fixed Term Employees)  
Trial Period We set a probationary period
Insurance Health insurance (MEXT Mutual Aid Association), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance, and Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance. You will be automatically enrolled in these insurances when working conditions meet the requirements.
