The members of CNRS delegate visited NIMS.

On Thursday 13th February, from 13:00 to 15:00, Dr. Thierry DAUXOIS (Director), Dr. Benoit DEVINCRE (Scientific Deputy Director), Dr. Frederic PETROFF (Scientific Deputy Director) and two staff members from the CNRS Tokyo office from the Institute of Physics of the centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), France visited NIMS.

During their visit, they first met with the NIMS President, NIMS executive vice-president and other administrative staffs of NIMS to exchange views on the potential for future networking, followed by a tour of the research facilities of International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA), Research Center for Magnetic and Spintronic Materials (CMSM) and Research Center for Structural Materials (RCSM).
In this facility tour, NIMS Fellow Dr. Takashi TANIGUCHI (Director of the MANA) introduced the "Belt-type high pressure apparatus for synthesis of quantum materials", Dr. Seiji MITANI (Director of the RCSM) explained his research results on "Tunnel magnetoresistance: Fundamentals and MRAM application", and finally, Dr. Takahito OHMURA (Deputy Director of the RCSM) introduced his research results on "Nano-mechanical characterization of fine-structured materials".
In addition, the members of the CNRS delegate had a direct exchange of opinions with NIMS researchers on potential future networking.

CNRS is the largest basic research organization in France, with a total staff of over 31,000. Dr Alain Aspect, the emeritus senior scientist at CNRS and Professor at the Université Paris-Saclay and École polytechnique, is also known as one of the Nobel laureates with two others of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in quantum information science ('Quantum entanglement').
The Institute of Physics is one of ten institutes under the CNRS, and its research activities are mainly focused in the following two research fields;
1. Fundamental laws, optics and lasers
2. Condensed Matter Physics and Nanoscience.

The tie of global network between the CNRS Institute of Physics and NIMS is expected to be strengthened in the near future.
