■NIMS Signs Collaboration Agreement with International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory for the Study of Noble Metal Clusters

On May 21, Prof. Teruo Kishi, the President of National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) signed a collaboration agreement on joint research efforts with International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), directed by Prof. Jose Rivas Rey.
The aim of this collaboration agreement is to promote joint research efforts between NIMS and INL in connection with "study of the geometrical and electronic structure of Au and Ag clusters". Advanced Nano Characterization Center (ANCC) of NIMS, directed by Dr. Daisuke Fujita, is responsible for the NIMS side.
INL is located in Braga City, Portugal. It has been established in July, 2009 by Spanish and Portuguese governments as the first, and so far the only one, fully international research organization in Europe in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Prof. Jose Rivas, the director general of INL, is one of the extinguished scientists in the field of metal nanoclusters. He has promoted the innovation of nanotechnology and has established a venture company such as NANOGAP. Taking advantage of the signing of this collaboration agreement, NIMS hopes to contribute to Spanish-Portuguese-Japanese research exchanges in nanomaterials science through close exchanges of research information, human exchanges, expansion of joint research, holding of joint workshops, and other activities between NIMS and INL.
