Abstract
We have grown Sm(Fe1 − xCox)12 (x = 0, 0.1 and 0.2) films epitaxially on V(001) bufferedMgO(001) single crystalline substrates in order to investigate the intrinsic hard magneticproperties of the Co substituted SmFe12 phase with the ThMn12 structure. We foundSm(Fe0.8Co0.2)12 has excellent intrinsic hard magnetic properties with spontaneousmagnetization of 1.78 T, anisotropy field of 12 T and Curie temperature of 859 K, all of whichare superior to those for Nd2Fe14B. Hence, the Sm(Fe0.8Co0.2)12 compound is promising aspermanent magnet material, if it can be stabilized in a bulk form.
