Abstract
In this work, we studied intrinsic magnetic properties of SmFe12-based permanent magnets to investigate their potential to be used as a new class of high performance permanent magnets. It was realized that Sm(Fe0.8Co0.2)11Ti magnet shows a comparable saturation magnetization and anisotropy field to that if Nd2Fe14B based permanent magnetis for the elevated temperature (200C) applications. It was found that (Sm0.8Zr0.2)(Fe0.8Co0.2)11.5Ti0.5 can show even superior hard magnetic properties than that of Nd2Fe14B based sintered magnets if the single phase can be realized. Further work is on the progress to transfer these intrinsic properties to the extrinsic magnetic properties by microstructure control.
