Critical issuie in permanent magnet resarch

Rare earths, particularly the heavy rare earth Tb and Dy which are used in order to improve magnetic hardness of the base compound Nd2Fe14B, are considered to be critical elements in terms of natural resources. In this presentation, critical issues to be attacked will be overviewed and possibilities to null the Dy concentration in Nd2Fe14B-based materials will be discussed. Some topics from recent search for new hard magnetic compounds will be also overviewed.
