We perform the basic research on superconductivity for the understanding the mechanism.
Since the discovery of high Tc superconductors in 1986, extensive studies on superconductivity have been done because of the great potential as a means of energy transport, energy storage, high speed devices, and so on. In high Tc superconducting cuprates and recently discovered Fe-based superconductors, it is well known that the superconductivity mechanism is not understood in the framework of the conventional theory, BCS theory, and strong electron correlation plays crucial roles. The understanding of the mechanism is one of the most important issues in condense matter physics.
In Superconducting Properties Unit, we perform the basic research on superconductivity, synthesis of novel superconductors, measurements of various physical properties and determination of the electronic structure for the understanding the mechanism. We also study superconducting vortex dynamics toward the application of novel quantum devices.
