New methodologies for rational networking of metal complexes make the future of materials science
We have successfully developed a novel and widely applicable synthetic approach for the rational design of multinuclear heterometallic complexes by taking advantage of the solid phase peptide synthesis protocol. We are trying to open a new era of materials science by exploring properties and phenomena peculiar to the low symmetric and highly ordered materials that are accessible only by this approach.

Specialized Research Field
Application of the solid phase peptide synthesis for the sequential coupling of various metal complex monomers, containing an amino acid moiety, on the resin allows to selectively synthesize multinuclear heterometallic complexes with a desired sequence. This methodology enables the combinatorial synthesis of metal complex arrays that are potentially useful to various applications such as molecular tags, catalysts, sensors and so on.
