Developing materials for hydrogen production and purification, and also trying to develop materials utilizing the property changes of solids caused by hydrogen
Hydrogen is mostly produced from fossil fuels, especially from methane, and catalysts to produce hydrogen and the process to purify hydrogen are being investigated. In Hydrogen Materials Unit, we are developing plate catalysts based on intermetallic foils having high catalytic activity and good heat resistance. We are also developing alloy based membrane materials for hydrogen purification. Furthermore, we are trying to develop materials with new functions by utilizing hydrogen-induced change in crystal structure and in electronic structure.
