Steel Research Center Signs MOU with Max-Planck Institute (MPIE)

The Steel Research Center (SRC) signed the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Max-Planck Institut fur Eisenforschung GmbH (MPIE, Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research) located in Dusseldorf, Germany on February 26, 2004. Tetsuya Saito, Auditor (first from the left), who has maintained a close relationship with the institute for many years, Kotobu Nagai, Director-General of SRC (fourth from the left), and Tadanobu Inoue, Senior Researcher (second from the right) represented NIMS, while Professor Peter Neumann, Former Director (first from the right), Martin Stratmann, Director (fourth from the right), and Herbert Wilk, Director of the Secretariat Office (second from the left), were among the representatives from MPIE who attended the signing ceremony. The contents of this memorandum were based on a long term collaboration between the two organizations and dealt with the agreement of carrying out mutual visits and the exchanging of researchers and promoting the exchange of research results related to steels internationally. A commemorative symposium was also held on the day of the signing and included presentations of research from both sides with the purpose of deepening the mutual understanding between the two groups.

The signing was completed during our visit which also included Verein Deutscher Eisenhuttenleute (V D E H) and its research institute BPI, and Aachen University of Technology, mainly to observe the progress of research in the field of plasticity. We hope that MOU will have an effect on more than just the two countries involved and contribute towards promoting international exchange in the basic research on steel materials in the future.
