NIMS Electrochemical Surface Science Laboratory

NIMS Electrochemical Surface Science Laboratory

Welcome to web site of Electrochemical Surface Science Laboratory in National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS).
This laboratory was established as a MANA Satellite in Physical Chemistry Laboratory, Division of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Hokkaido University in 2008. We moved to NIMS in April 2010 and set up a lob as Nanointerface Group of MANA. We also belong to Graduate School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering as Interfacial Energy Conversion Materials Chemistry Laboratory. Since April 2011, some of the members associate with "Nanostructured Electrocatalyst Group" and "Nanointerface Laser Spectroscopy Group" in GREEN.
Our group mainly carries out development of preparation methods of functionalized material layers by assembling atoms, molecules, and nano clusters on solid/liquid interfaces and fundamental researches for energy conversion on solid/liquid interfaces such as electrocatalysts and photoelectrochemistry.
To carry out fundamental study, single crystal surfaces of metals and semiconductors are used as substrates and electrochemical atomic layer epitaxy (ECALE), self-assembly (SA) and layer-by-layer methods are used to construct the functionalized material layers.
For in situ investigation of geometric, electronic and molecular structures of solid/liquid interfaces with high spatial and time resolution, we develop scanning probe microscopies, non-linear spectroscopies, gap mode Raman spectroscopy, surface X-ray scattering, X-ray absorption fine structure and visible pump - infrared probe methods.
