Research activities cover physics of magnetic materials with nanometer sizes: intermediate sizes between macroscopic and microscopic. The objective of the research includes microfabrication or preparation methods, magnetic properties and applications of the nanostructured magnetic materials. The research area is classified into the following three characteristic regimes different in size by one order of magnitude:
  1. 100 nm class : Ferromagnetic ultra-micro structures fabricated by an electron-beam lithography; their micro magnetic properties or quantum magnetic properties.
  2. 10 nm class : Quantum phenomena of macroscopic magnetic moment on an individual nanomagnet, and collective behavior of their assemblies.
  3. 1 nm class : Ferromagnetic fine particles embedded in solid insulators; granularmagnetic materials. Spin-dependent tunneling conduction and other quantum magnetic properties in these systems.
