Recent examples of atom probe tomography analyses will be shown to highlight
its breadth and depth of capabilities. As a three-dimensional atomic imaging
technique, atom probe tomography (APT) is unparalleled. Yet it fails to reach
the ultimate in microscopy which is seeing every atom with high precision in large
volumes. This talk will review the state of the art in APT and explore what it would
take to reach the next level which is defined to be atomic-scale tomography (AST).
The potential impact of AST on science and technology will be considered.
