FY 2002 Autumn Lecture Meeting of the Japan Institute of Metals

The spring and autumn lecture meetings of the Japan Institute of Metals have, over the past four years, dealt with case studies on "Safety and Accidents". Accidents happen for various reasons, but the social responsibility of engineers directly or indirectly involved in these accidents is increasingly coming into the spotlight. Technology, in particular, has recently come to have a direct and major impact on the public's perception of safety and the environment, which has led to greater burdens being placed on engineering in general and engineers in particular. The autumn meeting deals with this issue, offering an opportunity to specialists in this field to speak on this important theme from various viewpoints.
