Research Interests

Minoru Osada is working on the creation of new nanoscale materials and the exploration of their novel functions. His particular focus is put on 2D oxide nanosheets (TiO2, MnO2, Ca2Nb3O10...), which are obtained by delaminating layered compounds through soft-chemical procedures. These 2D nanosheets, which possess atomic or molecular thickness and infinite planar dimensions, are emerging as important new materials due to their unique properties. Recently, he discovered functional oxide nanosheets with novel dielectric and magnetic properties. He also utilized these oxide nanosheets as a building block in the bottom-up fabrication, and successfully developed various functional nanodevices such as high-k dielectrics, artificial ferroelectrics, nanosheet FET, ferromagnetic superlattices, magneto-optical films, etc.
