The 2nd MANA Reunion Workshop will be held at Auditorium, WPI-MANA building, Namiki-site, NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan over a 2-day period from March 8th (Thursday) to 9th (Friday), 2018. The official program PDF is now available. Pre-registration is required to attend the workshop and the banquet (free of charge). Please refer to the information below for details. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Preface

The International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA) was established at NIMS in 2007 in the framework of the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI program), which is sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Thanks to the great effort and support of many people over 10 years, we are proud that MANA has grown into a representative international research center in the fields of nanotechnology and material science, both in name and reality. Our concept of “Nanoarchitectonics” to create new materials and devices has now grown into a concept that is accepted around the world.

The 10 year WPI funding has ended in March 2017. Nevertheless, MANA will grow and develop further, and continue world leading research activities as an international hub institute for nanotechnology research. We are going to continue our efforts to deepen and pursue our "nanoarchitectonics". As one of seven research centers in NIMS and as a WPI center, MANA is engaged in a full range of research from basic to applied, in three research fields: Nano-Materials, Nano-Systems and Nano-Theory.

MANA has accepted many young researchers from around the world. Over the past 10 years, about 300 MANA research associates (postdocs), and about 135 graduate students have left MANA and obtained new positions throughout the world. About 36% of the postdocs have secured positions in Japan and about 64% found jobs overseas. For examples, 14 postdocs were selected for permanent researchers at NIMS, about 105 obtained faculty positions like professors, and about 30 have moved to private companies. Thus, MANA is very pleased to witness their successful career advancement.

We have established an “alumni system” for continual exchange with researchers who have left MANA. In March 2014, MANA has organized the 1st MANA/ICYS Reunion Workshop. The present workshop is the 2nd MANA Reunion Workshop. Through this workshop, MANA will further enhance its network and partnership with research institutes at home and abroad, and reinforce its function as a core international base.

I am so happy to see all of you here after a long interval. I hope you will enjoy this symposium, warming old friends and making new friends.
