Prof. Christian Joachim wins the Europe’s Rising Stars 2015

4 Jan, 2016

Prof. Christian Joachim, MANA Satellite PI won the one of the Europe’s Rising Stars 2015 on December 16, 2015 for the set up and coordination of the European Integrated Research Project “AtMol (Atomic Scale and Single Molecule Logic Gate Technologies)” (2011-2014).

With 11 partners and a consolidated budget of 9.6M euros, “AtMol” aimed to establish comprehensive process flow for fabricating a molecular chip with atomic scale precision. The project challenged to create circuits made up of molecular or atomic wires by manipulating single atom, and demonstrated that a minute electronic logic gate can be developed by using a single molecule or a few atoms placed one by one on a flat surface. The molecular-sized processors based on the research would resolve the current industrial limits and realize low energy consumption in the prospect of a sustainable future.

The Stars of Europe competition rewards successful European projects initiated in France by a private or public coordinating body and completed during the year. The event was initiated in 2013 by the French Government, in order to bolster France’s involvement in the Europe of research.
