Dr. Ajayan Vinu, MANA Independent Scientist, has been selected as the recipient of the two awards. The first is the Catalysis Society of India Award for the Year 2010. The award ceremony will be held on 19th of December 2010.

The second is the prestigious Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award for the year 2010 given by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The foundation grants 25 of these awards annually to young, high level researchers around the world in all the fields of research. Dr. Vinu was selected in recognition of his outstanding research accomplishments in the field of nanoporous materials. This honor will allow him to collaborate with the German scientists from Max Planck Institute on the fabrication of nanomaterials for the production of clean energy and the capture and conversion of CO2 molecules.

During the last 10 years, Dr. Ajayan Vinu has carried out high quality research and made a significant contribution in the field of nanoporous materials and their applications in fuel cells, adsorption, separation, and catalysis. He has introduced a new field of research such as nanoporous nitrides and presented novel concepts for making new nanoporous materials with different textural parameters and multiple functions. This research has led to ca. 200 papers in a high impact factor journals with more than 3200 citations and a H-index of 31. His research has been published in top journals like Angew. Chemie, Nano Letters, J. Am. Chem. Soc, Adv. Mater, Adv. Funct. Mater, Chem. Eur. J, Chem. Mater, J. Phys.Chem B, etc. with an average of 350 citations per year. At least 8 of his papers have been cited more than 100 times and 20 papers have been cited more than 50 times. He has also been invited to write several book chapters by respected publishers including Wiley, Elsevier and American Scientific. His research has attracted worldwide attention and he has been invited to deliver presentations at numerous international conferences, workshops and seminars and chaired sessions of several international conferences.
