ICYS Counseling Space Setup August, 2004
Director Nano & Mesoscopic Materials Laboratory (LM2N) from University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, France.
|
A lot of researchers with different cultures and nationalities are getting together at ICYS. Sometimes many questions and worries arise in the early stages of their term. Recently we set up ICYS Counseling Space to be of help to foreign researchers in their daily life. This is a new attempt as a support program to ICYS Research Fellows.

Prof. Morinobu ENDO of Shinshu University, who is famous for his extra-ordinary catalytic chemical vapor deposition method for the large-scale production of carbon nanotubes, gave a lecture at ICYS Seminar on Friday June 2nd 2004, to the ICYS research fellows and other members of the audience.
Title: "Large Scale Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes and Their Current Applications"
Prof. ENDO talked enthusiastically about the discovery of carbon nanotubes at the early stage of his research career. He also speak about the possibility of selective production of different types of carbon nanotubes, by using the floating reactant technique. Furthermore, the Professor also mentioned its rapid expansion in industrial applications.
After the seminar, Prof. ENDO joined our ICYS party and had a good time with our research fellows.
Prof. ENDO has been selected to receive the Society's Medal of Achievement in Carbon Science and Technology, in recognition of his pioneering work in the discovery and synthesis of carbon nanotubes. He shares the Medal of Achievement with Prof. Iijima ( Senior Research Fellow at NEC Corporation ) and Dr. Donald Bethune. |

|
| |
|
| |
Prof. USHIODA gave a lecture titled, "New Ideas through Person-to-Person Interactions"to the ICYS research fellows and other members of the audience.
The Professor gave significant tips on how to establish good collaborations between scientists in international circumstances.
He stated that it was important to trust and respect each other, and that it was important to behave fairly to everybody.
Furthermore, he mentioned that it would be productive to create a network of friendships all over the world, and to make a good use of these in the future.
After the lecture, Professor Ushioda enjoyed talking with the ICYS research fellows. |
