Qualification
Excellent students of Doctoral Program / Master's Cource in Materials Science
and Engineering, University of Tsukuba are qualified.
Note that following students are not qualified
1) Government-financed students
2) Adult students, who are employed by companies while at the graduate
school.

Duties
The duties of Junior Researchers (JRs) include maintaining and operating
scientific instrumentation, creative involvement in the thesis advisor's
research projects, performing experiments, analyzing and publishing the
results, attending conferences to present the results, and training and
supervising junior students or visitors to the institute. JRs must obey
the general rules for the NIMS staff members. The academic research for
the student's thesis project is not a part of the duties of the JRs, but
usually there is a close link between the thesis topic and the research
project for the JR's. |

Monthly Stipend
Monthly stipend will be paid to the JRs, depending on number of working
days, which is determined when the JRs is hired.

Doctoral student: about 190,000 JPY for the work of 13 days per month |
|
Master's student: about 70,000~160,000 JPY for the work of 5~11 days per
month |
Any additional time is associated with their academic research for their thesis topics. |

Contract Term
1) 1 year but ends at the end of Japanese annual year (March 31).
2) Can be extended twice (means 3 years at most) based on the rigorous evaluation.
3) Contract will be terminated if the student fails to demonstrate his/her excellence in research or leaves graduate school. |
