Route-map & Guide


1. From Narita Airport
The easiest way to get to Tsukuba is to take the Airport Liner NATT's, a shuttle bus service. It departs from bus stop #15 at terminal 1 and bus stop #12 at terminal 2. Tickets are available at Keisei counter, which is located on the 1st floor of each terminal. It takes approximately 100 minutes to Tsukuba center (depends on traffic). The fare is 2,540 yen per person for one way. Please note that no credit cards are acceptable for the ticket purchase.
*People who wish to go to Narita Airport by NATT's must reserve seats at least 3 days prior to the departure date.

2. From Haneda Airport to Tsukuba Center
The best way to get to Tsukuba from Haneda Airport is to take a shuttle bus service.
There are 12 bus services/day coming and going to the airport. The buses leave from the bus stop #13 on the 1F (arrival level). It takes approximately 110 minutes to Tsukuba center (depends on traffic). The fare is 1,800 yen per adult for one way. Tickets are available at a Tour Desk (Information desk) on the 1st floor of the terminal building. Please note that no credit cards are acceptable for the ticket purchase.

3. From Tokyo
By Tsukuba Express (TX)
Metropolitan Intercity Railway Co. operates Tsukuba Express (TX) line which connects Akihabara in central Tokyo and Tsukuba in 45 minutes. The fare is 1,150 yen.
Get off at Tsukuba station (last stop) and get out to the Tsukuba Center Bus Terminal from the station through Exit #4.
To Sengen site: 15 minute-walk to NIMS or take an Arakawaoki-bound local bus at the bus stop #4.
Get off at "Sengen ichome". Sengen site is located across the bus stop, so back to the large intersection close to the bus stop and take left and cross the street. Go straight for about 500m, you will see the main gate of Sengen site on your left.
To Namiki site: Take an Arakawaoki-bound local bus at the bus stop #4.
Get off at "Bushitsu Kenkyujo mae".
To Sakura site: Take the Techno Park Sakura-bound local bus at the bus stop #1.
Get off at "Hinomi Koen". Then, youfll get to NIMS in 5 min on foot.


By Express Bus

Japan Railway Co. (JR) and Kanto Railway Co. operate shuttle bus services between Tokyo and Tsukuba. The busses leave from Tokyo station "YAESU-south exit" (bus stop #3) every 10 to 20 minutes. It takes about 90 minutes to Tsukuba depending on the traffic. Tickets are available at a ticket booth in Highway bus center, which is located in YAESU-south exit. The fare for one way trip is 1150 yen/person. Please note that no credit cards are acceptable for the ticket purchase.

To Namiki site: Get off at "Namiki ichome"
To Sengen site: Get off at "Sengen ichome"
To Sakura site: Get off at "Tsukuba center bus terminal" (last stop) and take the Techno Park Sakura-bound local bus at the bus stop #1.
Get off at "Hinomi Koen". Then, youfll get to NIMS in 5 min on foot.

By JR Joban line
Get off at JR Arakawaoki station and take a Kanto Railway's local bus (#20, 21A or 26) at the West exit.
To Namiki site: Get off at "Bushitsu Kenkyujo mae" (13th stop).
Namiki site is located across the street.
To Sengen site: Get off at "Sengen ichome" (14th stop).
Sengen site is located behind the bus stop.
Go to the large intersection ahead on the street and take left (do not get across the street)
Go straight for about 500m, you will see the main gate of Sengen site
To Sakura site: Get off at "Tsukuba center bus terminal" (last stop) and take the Techno Park Sakura-bound local bus at the bus stop #1.
Get off at "Hinomi Koen". Then, youfll get to NIMS in 5 min on foot.


By a car
Take Joban highway to Sakura Tsuchiura exit, take a lane to Tsukuba direction, proceed to the second traffic light, intersection of Rout 354 and "Higashi o-dori" street; turn right onto "Higashi o-dori" street; continue on this street for a while

To Namiki site: Turn right at the 5th traffic light.
(approximately 4 blocks ahead on your right)
To Sengen site: At the 7th traffic light, intersection of "Higashi o-dori" street and "Minami o-dori" street; Turn left onto "Minami o-dori" street.
(You will see the main gate approximately 1 block ahead on your left)
To Sakura site: Proceed to "Hiratsuka" street, intersection of "Higashi o-dori" street and "Hiratsuka" street, turn right onto "Hiratsuka" street.
(Sakura site is located in approximately 1 block ahead from the intersection with seven-eleven)
