Optronic Materials Center

Promoting development of materials over a wide wavelength region, from IR to UV

he objectives of the Optronic Materials Center are to develop novel CRYSTALS for optics and optoelectronics applications. Our CRYSTALS include not only inorganic crystals as we say. but also photonic crystals composed of fine particles. We are developing technology for crystal growth and fabrication of optically active structures to answer various needs for the new light source from IR to UV region.

Naoki OHASHI

This center is found to contribute to society in the field of optronic materials and structures using nano-science and nano-technology. We are aiming for the realization of light emission and light modulation materials through developments in light emitting ceramics having well-organized nano-structures and nano-structures exhibiting strong interaction with photons. In particular, we focus on nano-structured wide-band-gap semiconductors for light emitting devices and nano-structured dielectrics for wave-guide and light frequency conversion functions. The goal for our research is to utilize intelligent light source in various wavelength regions, from mid infrared to deep ultraviolet region.
