Quantum Beam Center
Aiming for establishment of foundational quantum beam technologies by developing and applying high- luminescence radiation light and other types of beams
We aim to establish generic quantum-beam technologies which will achieve breakthroughs in materials creation, nanofabrication, and characterization by comprehensive development and use of high-brightness synchrotron, neutron beams, ion beams, atomic beams and other technologies, utilizing NIMS's unique R&D potential in materials fabrication and characterization.

The Quantum Beam Center develops foundational quantum beam technologies for fabrication and measurement of nanomaterials – as one of the common foundations of nanotechnologies – utilizing high resolution, coherence and controllability as features not found for other methods. Combining such features with NIMS materials fabrication core competence, we can aim for breakthroughs in 3D multiscale observations through the nanometer level in the measurements area and nanopatterning in nanostructural control area.

Groups
Ion Beam Group
We develop – by using ion-beam nanostructure interactions – ion-patterning technology, fabricate and control nanostructures, and express new materials capabilities unique to nanometer level like plasmonics, photonics and other nanoscale materials.

Atomic Beam Group
We are conducting through use of one of the softest beam lines – meta-stable hydrogen beam – technological development of ultrathin resist membrane for pattern transfer and also developing by using the spin-polarization beam a new surface measurement method.

Neutron Scattering Group
We seek to measure and visualize (in real space) neutrons scattered over a wide spectra by using light elements like hydrogen and magnetic moments, to use such information to uniformly understand the layered internal structures of fuel cells, superconductors and spintronics devices.
