Kotobu NAGAI

In order to contribute to the construction of a sustainable society based upon the Japanese prowess involving materials science, it is necessary to develop materials that can make maximum utilization of available resources and energy through application of nanotechnology. We promote the development of materials that lighten the environmental load, conserve resources, save energy and cleanse the environment, etc. – like next-generation highly heat-resistant materials, fuel-cell materials featuring high-efficiency operations at conventional or low temperatures, high-capacity superconducting materials toward practical applications, photocatalytic materials responding effectively to visible light and highly-functional structural materials.

Research Centers and Overview of Research Thereto

High Temperature Materials Center

We design and develop highly heat-resistant materials, in order to contribute to reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and realization of energy savings

Fuel Cell Materials Center

We aim to develop innovative materials that will be key to realization and diffusion of fuel cells

Superconducting Materials Center

We seek to establish the base for realization of superconducting wires by conducting – among other efforts – research as to wire production, based upon the concept of controlling structures at the nanometer levels

Photocatalytic Materials Center

We aim to develop and realize high-function, high-activity photocatalytic materials that are responsive to visible light

Structural Materials Center

We aim to realize corrosion-resistant materials that are free of maintenance, heat-resistant materials that can be used over long periods of time and materials having high-specific strengths

Advenced Photovoltaics Center

Opening the way to high performance of next generation solar cells by elucidation of the principle and mechanism

Exploratory Materials Research Laboratory for Energy and Environment

We prepare the development of a innovative material technology by a long-term vision, and build the base of the future.
