Key Nanotechnologies

Key Technologies for Supporting Science & Technology in the 21st Century

Codinating Director's Greeting

Daisuke FUJITA
Cordinating Director
Daisuke FUJITA

Nanotechnologies comprise the key technologies for supporting science & technology in the 21st Century. So that Japan can attain the strategic objectives of leading the world in the science & technology fields (encompassing ICT, life sciences and environment/energy technologies), innovative foundational nanotechnologies that form the support for such science & technology fields must be established. In this area, NIMS is involved in nanoscale structural processing, characterization/analysis and theoretical computations. Based upon world-leading technologies from NIMS and enhancement thereto, we aim to help realize innovative developments in Japan and globally – not to mention at NIMS – for developing and implementing high-level foundational technologies for use in the nanotechnology sector.

Research Units

Advanced Nano Characterization Center

We seek to establish foundational technologies for nano-characterization with high accuracy and high resolution to enable nanomaterials R&D

Computational Materials Science Center

Aiming to build the theoretical structure in materials design, by clarifying the properties/phenomena of materials

Quantum Dot Research Center

We seek to develop foundational nanotechnologies through enhancement and amalgamation of nanostructure creation technology

Quantum Beam Center

We seek to establish promising foundational quantum-beam technologies to markedly improve creation of materials plus processing, controlling and characterizing said materials

Nanotechnology Innovation Center (NICe)

To support innovation by providing advanced nanotechnology fabrication facilities and consulting services

Exploratory Nanotechnology Research Laboratory

The laboratory is exploring new nanostructure-based functional materials through the researches on synthesis and analysis of the materials.
