Materials Strength Standard and Technology Group

Abstract

We contribute to modification of codes and standards based on research findings for materials strength. The modification of codes and standards can contribute to making secure and safe society. We mainly study about high temperature creep, fatigue and fracture under extreme environments such as cryogenic temperature and hydrogen. In order to improve code and standard of power plants, long-term creep strength and microstructure of crept specimens are evaluated based on NIMS Creep Data Sheets. In future, we will contribute to modification of codes and standards based on research findings of fatigue, fracture, corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in cooperation with other research groups.

①Evaluation of creep strength of high Cr steel welds
  In order to improve reliability, operation and maintenance of welds, long-term creep strength is evaluated for high Cr steel welds, using large specimens. 
②Heat-to-heat variation of long-term creep strength of heat resistant steels
  In order to control the quality of the Grade 91 steel, the reason for the heat-to-heat variation of long-term creep strength should be clarified. Heat-to-heat variation of microstructural change during creep is investigated in Grade 91 steels in cooperation with industries. 
③Effects of extreme environments (cryogenic temp. / hydrogen) on mechanical properties
