Material Properties Theory Group

Recent progress in the theoretical and computational materials science and the nano-science requires the reconsideration of the conventional understanding of the material properties with help of the state-of-the-art computer technologies. Our group is aimed to development of the theories to invent new concept of materials and to disclose the behavior of electrons in the sub-nanoscale and to derive the properties based on it.

Specialized Research Field

We study the following research.
  • Quantum transport of topological insulators
  • Theory of the optical properties and the optical control of material properties
  • Structural change induced by the elastic interaction
  • Detailed theory of the electronic response under the magnetic field
  • Realistic modeling of transition metal oxides and other magnetic materials
  • Theoretical search for novel molecular solids
  • Structure, electronic structure, and dynamics of systems with surface, interface, or defects
  • Systematic theory of properties of the layered materials
  • Analysis of quantum critical phenomena using the Monte Carlo relaxation process
