Functional Clay Materials Group

Our group will develop techniques for transforming natural minerals to environmentally friendly materials with a wide variety of high performance applications, and promote research into any materials to contribute to the formation of a sustainable society. Of particular interest are the clay minerals with superior stability/safety in the earth’ s regolith and with their unique physicochemical properties including adsorption characteristics, colloidal nature, swelling and sliding friction.

Specialized Research Field

The major subjects are
  1. development of environmental remediation materials and techniques, such as adsorbents and methods for adsorbing and desorbing pollutants,
  2. development of functional materials based on thin-film fabrication and composite technologies, and
  3. pioneering a new research field utilizing mineral surface control techniques, such as resource recovery technology and mineral tribology.
