This Center is engaged in basic and generic research contributing to the creation of new materials for solving environmental and energy problems by convergence of theoretic analysis of surfaces/interfaces and advanced technology measurement techniques, targeting solar cells, photocatalysis, rechargeable batteries and fuel cells.

MEXT Program for Development of Environmental Technology using Nanotechnology

The objective of this Program is to create a base for promoting basic and generic/infrastructure research and development related to environmental technologies by bringing together top class researchers from Japan and other countries in cooperation with industry and universities. NIMS was selected to serve as the host institution.
