NIMS Advisor: Teruo KISHI

Teruo KISHI

Completed doctoral course in faculty of Engineering at University of Tokyo (1969). Served as Associate Professor at Institute of Space and Aeronautical Science (1974), Professor at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (1988) at University of Tokyo, Director General at the same center (1995), and Director General at the National Institute for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research, MITI (1997). Assigned to the first President of NIMS (2001). After retiring as President, appointed as the NIMS Advisor. Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo. Also, assigned as a President of The Japan Federation of Engineering Societies (JFES), and have served as Vice President of The Science Council of Japan (2003-2005).

Distinguished Advisor: Teruo OKANO

Teruo OKANO

Majored in Applied Chemistry in faculty of Science and Engineering at Waseda University (1974), completed doctoral course of same major (1979). After serving as an Assistant and Lecturer at Tokyo Women's Medical University, Assistant Professor at University of Utah, Assistant Professor at Tokyo Women's Medical University, served as Professor at Institute of Biomedical Engineering (1994) and director of the same institute (1999). Serving as director of the Institute of Advanced Biomedical Engineering and Science (2001) at the Tokyo Women's Medical University, also assigned as a Coordinating Director of Nanotech-driven Materials Research for Biotechnology Field and Special Advisor at NIMS from April 2008. Professor at University of Utah from 1994.

Kenichi SHIDA

Graduated from Applied Physics course in faculty of Science and Engineering 1 at Waseda University (1963), took master’s degree in Applied Physics at Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, The University of Tokyo (1965). After serving at Central Research Laboratory, R&D Laboratory at Kashima Plant, Head Office at Kurashiki Rayon Co.(now Kuraray) from 1965, served at Kuraray International Corporation, VP (New York) from 1984. Also, served as Business Development Division Manager, R&D Control Department Manager, and Development Promotion Department Manager at Head Office of Kuraray (1988). Managing Director/Executive Director of The Society of Polymer Science, Japan (1996). Head of Hokkaido University Tokyo Office (2004), and Special Advisor at NIMS from April 2008.
