NIMS Concludes a Memorandum of Understanding and holds a Workshop with DGRSDT of Algeria

(March 30th, 2015) President Prof. Sukekatsu Ushioda of NIMS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Directorate General for Scientific Research and Technology Development (DGRSDT) of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. H.E. Mr. Mohamed El Amine Bencherif, new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan who just took office at the end of last February, witnessed the signing. His presence reinforces importance of this MOU and the research collaboration between the two institutions.

Following the signing ceremony, a workshop on Materials for Energy and Environment was held with the materials scientists from distinguished universities and national laboratories in Algeria on March 30th, and a discussion session of the possible future collaboration and laboratory tours were conducted on March 31st.

The Directorate General for Scientific Research and Technology Development (DGRSDT) is one of the bureaus in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) and responsible for the scientific research of entire Algeria, in particular programming and evaluating the scientific research, developing the human resources, supporting scientific cooperation, financing university research, etc. It also directly operates 11 national laboratories including those for sustainable energy and biotechnology.

Based on the new MOU, DGRSDT will be coordinating the collaboration between NIMS and the many universities and national laboratories in Algeria, and a more active future cooperation can be envisaged between NIMS and academic institutions in Algeria.
