Science and Technology of Advanced Materials - STAM

2023.07.27 Update

NIMS, as a national research laboratory in materials science, produce a quality peer-review journal to the materials science community.

Overview of STAM

Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM) is a high-quality English language journal with an impact factor of 5.5. STAM’s current editorial board consists of 68 members from 13 countries with expertise in diverse areas of materials research, including editor-in-chief Kazuhiro Hono (President, National Institute for Materials Science). The journal covers all areas of materials research (e.g., research on metallic, inorganic, organic and biological materials and nanotechnologies) and serves as a medium for materials scientists to globally disseminate their research findings.

The publication and editorial processes of this open access journal have been cosponsored by NIMS and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa). Authors retain copyright to their articles, which are published under a Creative Commons CC BY license.

Article processing charges (APCs)—fees charged to research article authors in order to make their publications accessible to the public for free—are rapidly increasing worldwide. To alleviate this financial burden on authors, NIMS and Empa have been sponsoring STAM’s limited-time APC-free publishing campaign since April 2023. This campaign offers fee exemptions to authors and free access to readers and is expected to promote more equitable opportunities to publish and access research outputs
