About career:
After receiving my Ph.D. from Moscow State University, Russia, I worked at NIMS as a postdoctoral fellow for two years and as a postdoctoral researcher at Kyoto University for two years, then returned to NIMS, where I joined ICYS. I came to Japan because a friend in Japan recommended the excellent research environment here, especially at NIMS. I certainly agree with this.

Why did you come back to NIMS?:
They offer very good conditions in ICYS. ICYS respects researcher independence, gives us an independent budget, and provides sufficient equipment. The research potential of ICYS is high.

After two years, you became a permanent staff?:
During my stay at ICYS, I came to appreciate that NIMS is a very good institute for materials science. Since I moved to NIMS, my positive opinion of the good research environment here has not changed.

About Research :
I study the so-called multiferroic ceramics, which are prepared under extreme conditions, like high pressure. They are magnetic ferroelectric materials that could be used as memory elements, such as magnetic memory or ferroelectric memory.

About NIMS' potential in your filed:
I think that Japan has very high potential in this field, and NIMS is one of the good institutes in the field. So, I am very happy to have a permanent position at NIMS.

About private life in Tsukuba:
I often play with my daughter. She is 2 years old now. We enjoy bicycling in parks in Tsukuba. I like the parks in Tsukuba very much.

About Inconveniences in Japan
I feel no language problem at NIMS and no inconvenience to my private life in Tsukuba. Many people in Tsukuba speak English well. My family also enjoys their life here.

Comments to foreign researchers:
I think that NIMS is a very good institute. They have very interesting research topics. Their research environment is very good. If I need to use some equipment, I can ask anybody. Of course, it depends on the relationship between people. Sometimes it is difficult to borrow equipment, but sometimes it is very easy. Overall, I feel it is easier to ask for help in NIMS. I do not feel any language problem in NIMS. I think that there is no difficulty for foreign researchers to do their research work in NIMS.
