The Research Unit of Environmental Remediation Materials has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate. The successful candidate will be involved in developing new catalytic materials including photocatalysts for environmental remediation such as decomposing hazardous chemicals, or for fuel production from water splitting and CO₂ reduction. We seek a postdoctoral researcher who is eager to challenge the materials design for high-performance catalysts from computational approach based on the density functional theory. Demonstrated experiences in electronic structure calculations are required for the position. We especially welcome individuals who are willing to collaborate with experimentalists.

Si nanostructure solar cells

Areas of particular interest are the synthesis and characterization of Si nanostructure solar cells using Si nanowires and Si nanocrystals. We have a CVD, a PLD, and a sputtering systems for the synthesis of nanowires and nanocrystals. We also use SEM, TEM, micro-Raman, and photoluminescence for the characterization of nanowires, EB litho and evapolation system for the fabrication of solar cells.

The Editorial Office of STAM is seeking a highly motivated person with a doctorate in materials science or related subjects to join the editorial team as a Reviews Editor.

STAM is a source of timely and in-depth information for materials scientists worldwide. The journal publishes original research papers and review articles covering areas including metals, inorganic and organic materials, biocompatible materials, and nanotechnology. In 2009 STAM’s ranking within ‘materials science and multidisciplinary research’ journals rose to 36 out of 212; establishing STAM as the highest ranking journal specializing in materials science published in Japan. Main Duties of the Reviews Editor

Pre-screening manuscripts, coordinating the review process between handling editors, reviewers, and authors.
Copy editing the main contents and citations list of manuscripts.
Identifying topics suitable for publication in STAM and the development of high quality content for STAM Focus Issues.
Developing networks by participating in academic conferences.
Working closely with the Editor, co-Editor, and Publishing Director to devise and implement strategic projects for the journal.
Writing
1. Producing content for monthly newsletters for the STAM Editorial Board.
2. Writing summaries and press releases about high impact articles published in STAM—in Japanese for readers in Japan, and in English for overseas news media.
