Toward high performance parmanent magnets for automotive applications
K. Hono
Nd-Fe-B based sintered magnets are the highest performance permanent
magnets of today. Due to new applications for hybrid cars and electric
vehicles, the demand for higher performance magnets that can be used at
elevated temperature has increased. In this talk, I will discuss two
approaches for developing higher performance permanent magnets for
automotive applications, one is ultrafine grained Nd-Fe-B sintered
magnets and the other is anisotropic nanocomposite magnets. Based on
the new understanding on the structure-property relationships of sinterd
and HDDR magnets obtained in our group, I will discuss the methodology
to develop higher performance permanent magnets with the above two
approaches.
